Italics Generator
Real italics you can paste anywhere, including the apps that give you no italic button. Pick a serif or sans style and copy.
What is italic text?
An italics generator replaces your letters with Unicode italic characters, so the slant is part of the text itself and survives pasting into apps with no formatting options.
How the Italics Generator works
Most apps that lack an italic button are not missing a font; they only accept plain text, and plain text has no formatting layer. Unicode solves this by including complete italic alphabets as their own characters: mathematical italic letters like ๐, ๐, ๐ in both serif and clean sans-serif forms. The generator maps each of your letters to the matching italic character, so what you paste is text that is italic by identity, not by styling.
Choose Serif Italic for the classic book look, the one used for titles and quotations. Sans Italic matches the flat design of social apps and looks native in a bio or a post. Both come in bold versions for headings. One honest limitation: these alphabets have no italic digits in the serif set, so numbers stay upright, which is also how professional typesetters often set them.
Italic text styles in this generator
- Serif Italic: Classic serif italics, the book style used for titles and quotations.
- Serif Bold Italic: Serif italics with bold weight, for headings that still feel literary.
- Sans Italic: Sans-serif italics. Flat, modern slant that looks native in bios.
- Sans Bold Italic: Sans bold italic: maximum emphasis in the modern flat style.
- Cursive Italic: Light, flowing script. Delicate and closest to everyday handwriting.
- Sans Normal: Clean sans-serif capitals and letters, matching modern app design.
Where to use italic text
Quotations and titles
Style guides ask for italics on book, film and album titles and for quoted speech. Unicode italics let you follow the rule even in a plain comment box.
Emphasis in posts
One italic phrase inside a plain post does the work of a raised eyebrow. It is the most underused emphasis tool on social media.
Bios and profiles
An italic job title or tagline under your name separates it from the rest of the bio without symbols or clutter.
Study notes and messages
Italicise the term being defined, the foreign word or the part of the answer that matters when you share notes in chat.

Italic text FAQs
Why do some apps show italic as boxes?
The app is using a font that lacks the mathematical italic block. Most major apps and modern phones include it; very old Android versions are the usual exception. Sans Italic has slightly wider support than the serif set.
Is Unicode italic real italic?
Visually yes, structurally it is different characters rather than a style applied to normal letters. For anything you paste into another app, that difference is an advantage, because the slant cannot be stripped away like formatting can.
Can I use this italic text in a document?
Yes, it pastes into Word and Google Docs as text. For a formal document, prefer the editor's real italic for consistency, and use Unicode italics where the platform gives you no formatting controls.
Does italic Unicode text affect screen readers?
Some screen readers read mathematical letters individually or skip them. Keep critical information in plain text and use Unicode italics for emphasis and decoration.
Why did my numbers not turn italic?
Unicode defines italic digits only in the sans sets on this page. Serif italic letters with upright numbers is standard typographic practice, so the output still looks correct.
