Upside Down Text Generator
Flip your text completely upside down, letter by letter and end to start, so it reads correctly when the world turns it over.
What is upside down text?
An upside down text generator replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks like its upside-down twin, then reverses the whole string, so the result reads correctly when flipped.
How the Upside Down Text Generator works
Flipping text takes two steps, and most people forget the second one. First, every letter is swapped for a lookalike character that resembles it rotated 180 degrees: a becomes ɐ, p becomes d, m becomes ɯ, and so on, borrowing from phonetic alphabets, turned letters that Unicode includes for linguistics, and a few helpful symbols. Second, the entire string is reversed, because when you rotate a line of text, the last letter lands first. Skip the reversal and your flipped text reads backwards as well as upside down.
Not every character owns a perfect twin. Capitals are the patchiest: a handful (A, C, E, F, G, T, U, V, Y and friends) have true flipped forms, and this generator substitutes the flipped form of the lowercase letter for the rest, which is the standard approach across flip tools. Digits mostly rotate honestly (6 and 9 swap, of course), and punctuation flips too: a question mark becomes ¿, which Spanish speakers will recognise as the real thing used at the start of their questions.
Upside down text styles in this generator
- Upside Down: Each letter replaced by its rotated twin, string reversed to read flipped.
- Full Reverse: Your text written back to front, last character first.
- Reverse Each Word: Every word's letters reversed while the word order stays put.
- Reverse Word Order: Word order reversed while each word stays intact.
Where to use upside down text
Jokes and comments
An upside-down reply is a complete joke in itself. It is the traditional way to answer a post that got something exactly backwards.
Table-flip memes
The (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ tradition and its calmer cousin, putting the table back: ┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ), live on flipped text. Usernames and comments still run on it.
Puzzles and riddles
Hide an answer upside down at the bottom of a worksheet, a party game or a social post, the way puzzle books have done for a century.
Names and bios
A flipped word or two in a profile makes people physically tilt their phones, which is the most engagement a bio can ask for.

Upside down text FAQs
Why is my flipped text also backwards?
It is not a mistake: rotating a line of text 180 degrees reverses the letter order as well as flipping each letter. The generator reverses the string for you, so if you physically turn your phone or screen around, the text reads in the correct order.
How do I read upside down text someone sent me?
Turn your phone upside down, or paste it back into this generator and flip it again: flipping twice returns the original text exactly, because the mapping is symmetrical.
Why did some capitals come out lowercase?
Only some capital letters have true upside-down Unicode twins. For the rest, the generator uses the flipped lowercase shape, which matches what a real rotation would look like anyway. Lowercase input gives the most faithful flips.
Does upside down text work on Instagram and TikTok?
Yes, the flipped characters are standard Unicode and paste into bios, names and comments. A few very old devices lack some of the turned letters and show boxes instead.
Can I flip emojis too?
Emojis have no flipped Unicode versions, so they pass through unchanged (and get reversed along with the string). For a fully flipped effect, keep emojis at the end of your text, which the reversal moves to the start, where they look intentional.
